Osterley Sports Centre

OSTERLEY SPORTS CENTRE

CLIENT SPORT IMPERIAL & LOCAL COMMUNITY GROUP
STATUS PENDING
LOCATION OSTERLEY
DATE 2016

We were appointed by a community group, who owned the site, to produce a development scheme for a multi-use sports and conference facility. The client group expanded to include Sport Imperial (Imperial College, London) and Sport England with the design of the development conforming to all groups’ briefs.

The scheme design included an indoor cricket school, cricket pitches, 4G MUGA, football pitches, rugby pitches, kabadi courts, an indoor pool and squash courts. On the upper floor, we designed adaptable conference and reception facilities.

Although the site is on Metropolitan Open Land, Ealing Council were positive about the outcome and became active in encouraging the redevelopment to provide more sports facilities to the local community.

Regent's University London Blueprint

STATUS ONGOING
LOCATION REGENT’S PARK, LONDON
PROJECT VALUE £VARIOUS

We have been working with Regent’s University London for over five years; working on their capital, remodelling, improvements, and cyclic maintenance projects. Our detailed knowledge of the campuses, and the client organisation, was the reason why we were chosen to produce the masterplan, or ‘Blueprint’, for the University. The process of informing the several stakeholders, each with their own priorities and requirements, was carefully planned and required fine-tuned presentations. The basis of the Blueprint is the educational concept of the ‘sticky campus’, an idea that you can find out more about from our series of info-videos.

The culmination of the Blueprint is a considered programme of change for the University; change that includes organisational and faculty revisions, and major capital projects such as the refectory mezzanine project, the new fitness complex and department reorganisations.

Regent’s University London has been a long-standing client of ours and the Refectory Mezzanine project is one of the major projects within the Blueprint masterplan project, also being undertaken by Gunn Associates. The c-shaped mezzanine, with its own bridge-link, creates additional seating for students and provides a variety of different spaces for relaxing and studying. The mezzanine floor has more relaxed seating than the main room, below, with table nests also placed along the bridge link between the two halves.

The original refectory was constructed in the 1950’s in the Art deco style and includes features such as the dramatic wall frieze and deco-style door arches.

Gunn’s design positions a delicate, contemporary, insertion that keeps the emphasis on the original double-height space. The flowing nature of the mezzanine contrasts with the rectangular shape of the refectory. The new level is enhanced by a guarding constructed from self-supporting upright glulam posts.
